Hello,
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog! I've created
this site to explain in more detail the ideas behind and process toward
all the websites, graphics, and other multimedia designs I create.
I'll be breaking down each project from start to finish to give you an
idea of how I work. Feel free to comment or email me (renix86 at gmail
dot com) if you'd like to chat about any of my work.
In case you haven't met me yet, my name is Rachel Nix. I work
in the entertainment industry incorporating my love of the internet and
design with my passion for indie rock music. I've worked for
television and radio for most of college in web and promotions and have done several
internships in the industry. I've been a Manager at WCRD, Ball State's
student-run radio station, for 2 years working as Web Manager and Music
Director as well as the occasional DJ shift. I also worked as Multimedia
Director for Cardinal Vision 57, BSU's student-run TV station.
I graduated from Ball State University in May of 2008 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Telecommunications Multimedia and a minor in Digital Media. After college, I moved to Louisville, Kentucky with my fiance. I am currently actively looking for a new job doing social media, marketing, promotions, design, or any combination of the four.
Please contact me with any questions, employment openings, or anything else!
Thanks,
Rachel Nix

The Kentucky Chiropractic Association website was one of my first attempts to take advantage of all the great things Joomla can do. It is still in construction phase and needs a bit of content and some tweaking. It is currently online at: www.kychiropractic.com

Racing for Chiropractic is a non-profit organization created to promote the use of chiropractic care for those who love to race whether it be in cars, on atvs, or on foot. The logo needed to be bold and interesting but not specifically depict any kind of racing since the cause is so diverse.

The Eriksen Services website is currently in production. Stay tuned for more updates, here is what the final product will look like. I have taken on the huge task of learning Joomla! to use for the Eriksen Services, Eriksen Chiropractic Centers, and Kentucky Chiropractic Association websites along with websites we create in the future.

Next, after designing the logos for Eriksen Services, I designed business cards and letterhead.
Two versions of business cards, one more traditional approach for our on site attorney and one for myself and other designers.

Four versions of letterhead, the second one is the one we chose.

I recently took a job as Web and Graphic Designer at Eriksen Services in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Because Eriksen Services is a relatively young company, they had yet to nail down a solid graphic identity. I worked hard to protray the company's fresh, talented, and wide variety of skills through this logo package. Because the company is not just design, but also consulting and motor sports.
I needed something that looks professional enough for a lawyer, cool enough for an atv rider, and stylish enough for a graphic designer. It was no easy task, below are the final few design choices.

In January of 2008, two of my friends and I decided to start a game show. We all had ample connections within Ball State and decided to pool our resources to pull together a all new show. The game show, "Blank Slate" was based off of Match Game from the 70's. I acted as Creative Director throughout the Pre-Production phase of the project. I designed the logo, created multiple flyers, all set design assets, and a Flash website. During the live tapings of the show, I served as a Floor Producer keeping everything in order, picking contestants, and wrangling the audience.
The Logo:

Two versions of the logo were used depending on needs. The black was used for most flyers and much of the TV logos were turquoise.
The Website:
I wanted to really challenge myself to do something far more complicated than anything I'd done before in Flash. I wanted a heavily animated website that was interactive and fun. I worked to uphold the lighthearted nature of the show and integrate new aspects to the site to make it something people want to use and come bac to.
.
Site Features:
- Animated Intro
- Loading Screen with Progress Bar
- Option to Skip Intro
- HTML only Site Option
- Video Player (my first ever!)
- Little details for transitions
Final tweaks are still being made to the site, it should be complete by May of 2008.
Currently In Progress:
- Interactive Game to with questionsn from the show
- Apply to be a contestant online
- All Episodes Online
- Panelist and Hosts Bios

As Multimedia Director for our campus TV station, I am occasionally asked to design promotional flyers for the station. Two shows were doing special Valentine's Day episodes and asked that I design something to promote their programs.

For my capstone class for the Digital Media Minor, I was asked to design a flyer for our end of the year showcase where we present our projects. (Mine is the Blank Slate website)
